唐から宋への過渡期となった五代、10世紀に華北で作られた双耳壺です。高温で焼成されよく焼き締まっており、胎土の白さと透明釉の質の良さが看て取れます。小品ゆえに座右に置いて愉しみたくなる一品です。類例も数少ないため窯は判然としませんが、唐代を中心に隆盛した邢州窯的な穏やかな雰囲気と、シャープになり洗練度を増していく次世代の定窯的な要素のどちらもが垣間見え、非常に学究的な作品と云えます。
オンラインコレクションに何度も登場している旧蔵者Carl Kempe（1884〜1967年）は鑑賞陶磁史を語る上で欠かせぬ存在のひとりで、20世紀前半を代表する蒐集家です。1964年に出版された彼の陶磁器コレクションを纏めた『CHINESE CERAMICS in the Carl Kempe Collection』には、全900点が掲載されています。その序文でケンペ本人が「既に多数中国陶磁の本は出版されているので、この本を出版することを躊躇ったが、自分のコレクションがゆくゆく世界の蒐集家にも注目されうるだろうと考え、世に出すことにした。白いやきもの、特に唐代のものが本コレクションの中心である。」ということを述べています。希少な類例を多数含む彼の旧蔵品は、常に注目される存在となりました。まさにこの双耳高足壺はケンペコレクションの象徴のような一品と云えるでしょう。
